I’m frustrated! How can I get through to Jehovah’s Witnesses?

 Reaching Loved Ones

I’M FRUSTRATED! HOW CAN I GET THROUGH TO JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES?

“I’m discouraged.  It just seems like to me that there is NO WAY to reach Jehovah’s Witnesses. As an evangelical Christian, I do not want to slam my front door in their faces, like some people do.  I really do want to talk them, but not on their terms—only on my terms.  After all, the burden of proof lies with the one making the claim.  They must prove to me that the true name for God is indeed “Jehovah.”  They must prove to me that the Watchtower is God’s only true means of communication with mankind.  At any rate, I have stayed awake at night trying to figure out a way to reach these people with convincing and powerful arguments from the Bible, and I come up with a blank slate every time.  Perhaps you can give me an encouraging word.”

Dear friend,

We truly do understand your frustration.  We’ve been there many times.  I think the mistake many make in trying to reach Jehovah’s Witnesses is thinking that Jehovah’s Witnesses believe what they do because it makes sense.  While that may be true to some extent, it is only partially true. How Can I Reach My Jehovah’s Witness Co-Worker?

Witnessing

HOW CAN I REACH MY JEHOVAH’S WITNESS CO-WORKER – My Christian friends told me not to talk to Jehovah’s Witnesses, but my co-worker is one and we have become friends. What should I do?

“My job is one that teams people up with others in the workplace.  I ended up working on a team with a Jehovah’s Witness and we have become good friends.  It is funny how this worked out because when I was growing up, I was told by the Christian leaders in my church to never talk to Jehovah’s Witnesses.  We were made to feel like any interaction with a Jehovah’s Witness was sinful and that we would be betraying God.  So now, as I had already become friends with him before I know he was a Jehovah’s Witness, it is awkward for me.  I do recognize that if Christians never open themselves up to talk to Jehovah’s Witnesses, they will never hear the truth.  Yet, when I consider the things I have also been told by strong Christians whom I respect—things like the idea that Jehovah’s Witnesses will never change and that my faith can be damaged from interactions with them—I don’t know how to approach this situation.  My friend has given me a Watchtower publication, which in the past, I always refused to accept at the door.  Yet, he wants me to read an article in it.  Since he is my personal friend and I care about his eternal destiny, it is much harder for me to be firm in saying, “No Thank-you.”  Should I refuse to take this information?  I am SO stressed out about “going head-to-head” so to speak, over our different faiths.  He is much more intelligent, well studied, and better spoken than I amI feel very intimidated.  I know that God’s truth stands alone. Yet, I am afraid. Any help or counsel you could provide would be much appreciated.  Thank you!” Continue reading “How Can I Reach My Jehovah’s Witness Co-Worker?”

How can I share my faith with Jehovah’s Witnesses without getting into an argument?

HOW CAN I SHARE MY FAITH WITH JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES WITHOUT GETTING INTO AN ARGUMENT?

“This past Saturday, Jehovah’s Witnesses came to my door offering a ‘free home bible study’. I told them that I am comfortable in my Christian beliefs, but that I am always interested in a good “Bible study.” So, they asked me if they could come back at a more convenient time. I agreed and we set up an appointment for next week.  To be honest, I am nervous. Although I am willing to talk to them, I do not feel strong enough in my faith to go ‘head-to-head’ with them on their beliefs.  I am not a very confrontational person and I don’t like debating. Is there anything I can share with these Jehovah’s Witnesses that will not turn into an argument?Continue reading “How can I share my faith with Jehovah’s Witnesses without getting into an argument?”

What can I mail to a Jehovah’s Witness who wrote me a letter?

WitnessingWHAT CAN I MAIL TO A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS WHO WROTE ME A LETTER?

I just received a letter from a Jehovah’s Witness who invited me to study the Bible with them. I don’t have time to study well enough to feel comfortable talking to this person face-to-face. Is there anything I can mail to this Jehovah’s Witness who sent me the letter?”

OUR RESPONSE:

Thank you for asking about resources that are good to mail to Jehovah’s Witnesses.  The fact that this Jehovah’s Witness took the time to write and invite you to do a “Bible Study” with them gives you an open door to share your faith through the mail, without feeling pressured to engage in face-to-face contact.

The advantage of corresponding through the mail and/or email versus face-to-face contact can be that it allows you more time to research their objections before you respond.  On the other hand, corresponding can make it more difficult to convey emotion and a caring attitude as it is easier to just state the facts on paper and more difficult to see the Jehovah’s Witness’ emotional response to those facts.  This can make it difficult to determine if the direction you are going in your witnessing is truly impacting the person.  Continue reading “What can I mail to a Jehovah’s Witness who wrote me a letter?”

How should my Church Minister to Prison Inmates who are Jehovah’s Witnesses?

Help Reach My Friend

HOW SHOULD MY CHURCH MINISTER TO PRISON INMATES WHO ARE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES?

“We have a prison ministry in our church. Last week, our team talked with a Jehovah’s Witness inmate who seems to be open to the Word of God.  We offered to do a Bible study with her and she is open to this, although she still believes that the Jehovah’s Witnesses have the truth.  How can we minister to her in a way that will help her see the fact that Watchtower doctrine is wrong on the key essentials of salvation? Our ministry team is scheduled to visit this lady again next weekend. Do you have suggestions of what we can share with her?”

OUR RESPONSE:

Dear Friend,

We are excited to see you and your church are reaching out to this Jehovah’s Witness prisoner with the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.  One of the reasons Jehovah’s Witnesses are able to gain so many converts among inmates is due to the fact that they actively pursue prison ministry, offering their “free bible studies” to prisoners on a regular basis.  In reality, these “bible studies” turn out to be nothing more than a study of one of their Watchtower publications that explains the Bible from their perspective (actually twists the meaning of Scripture to fit their unbiblical doctrines).  Continue reading “How should my Church Minister to Prison Inmates who are Jehovah’s Witnesses?”

If my Jehovah’s Witness friend does not accept the deity of Jesus Christ, is he destined for the lake of fire?

Help Reach My Friend

IF MY JEHOVAH’S WITNESS FRIEND DOES NOT ACCEPT THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST, IS HE DESTINED FOR THE LAKE OF FIRE?

“I am a Christian. By this I mean I am a follower of Jesus Christ and a careful student of the Scriptures. I believe God’s Word is infallible and eternal, and I believe in the doctrine of the Trinity and Deity of Jesus Christ.  A good friend of mine is one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He does not believe in the Trinity and the idea that Jesus is Almighty God. He and I have debated these doctrines on a number of occasions and both of us have made some serious statements and stood our ground. I really admire this man for his commitment to study and his thirst for answers.  If only his energy was focused in the direction of truth. He is convinced that the Jehovah’s Witness Bible, The New World Translation, ‘is truth’. His biggest stumbling blocks are found in the Scriptures that make Jesus’ subordinate to God the Father. He does not believe that Jesus is ‘uncreated and eternal,’ but that God created him as the greatest of His angels.  I have not been able to adequately convince him otherwise.  Are Jehovah’s Witnesses destined for the Lake of fire? Or will some spend eternity with God?” Continue reading “If my Jehovah’s Witness friend does not accept the deity of Jesus Christ, is he destined for the lake of fire?”

Why Should I believe in God as an Ex-Jehovah’s Witness?

Mountain Snow

“WHY BELIEVE IN GOD?”- ANSWER TO AN EX-JW ATHEIST

“I write to you as an Ex-Jehovah’s Witness and current atheist. Quite frankly, I find your website astounding.  You do a great job trashing those Watchtower Governing Body scammers, but then you lead your readers straight into another religion!

In my opinion, you are like paramedics doing your best to rescue people in some perilous situation and having rescued them, then administer poison to them.  You may not have the numbers or the money of the Watchtower Society but you both claim to know for certain that there is a God up in the sky; you both claim to have an insight into what that God wants with regard to mankind; and as His chosen ones, you both claim the authority to tell other people how they should live their lives.  So really, what’s the difference?! My goal is to sow seeds of doubt in the minds of religious people and encourage them to think rationally about why they believe what they do.  I applaud your efforts in helping people free themselves from the tyranny of the Watchtower Society, but I find it so sad that you cannot then leave them free to decide for themselves whether or not to have a relationship with a God or a soccer ball or anything else!” Continue reading “Why Should I believe in God as an Ex-Jehovah’s Witness?”

How can I find someone to study the Bible with me?

Bible Study.:HOW CAN I FIND SOMEONE TO STUDY THE BIBLE WITH ME?

“I have been studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. When I found your website, I discovered that some of the beliefs that the Jehovah’s Witnesses have been teaching me are not accurate according to the Bible. I am confused and I really want to know what the Bible says. How can I find someone to meet with me and teach me how to study the Bible accurately?”

OUR RESPONSE:

Dear friend,

We appreciate your desire to know what the Bible says about how to know God and live a life that is pleasing to Him. Since our ministry is small and does not have enough staff to meet with you one-on-one, we recommend the ministry of The Navigators as well as the ministry of Bible Study Fellowship. They specialize in meeting people one-on-one to do home bible studies or meeting in small groups at local public places, and they have many staff and resources to help you learn how to study the Bible on your own. Here are a few of links to their websites that will help you:

BIBLE STUDY FELLOWSHIP GROUPS – www.bsfinternational.org

bullets STUDY THE BIBLE WITH A NAVIGATOR STAFF PERSON – Click on this map to find a Navigator staff person in your area to contact for a free home bible study. (www.navigators.org)

bullets THE RACE BEGINS BIBLE STUDY TRAINING GUIDE – Read this Bible Study Training Manual to learn how to read and study the Bible on your own. (from navigators.org and pfi.org) “The Race Begins” is a program for those who have recently accepted Christ.

  • Note: Even though this Bible study was first created to be used as a training guide to teach prison inmates about the Bible, it is still a good Bible study for ANYONE who wants to know more about the Bible.

If there are no Navigator staff people or Bible Study Fellowship groups in your area that are able to meet with you, you can always study the training manual linked above as well as visit a local Christian church in your area.  A few guidelines that can help you find a good Christian church are given in this article: Continue reading “How can I find someone to study the Bible with me?”

I wanted to learn more about the Bible so I started studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses.

wdgrstudy.: I WANTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE BIBLE SO I STARTED STUDYING WITH JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES. HAVE I BEEN DECEIVED?

“I just read Tammie’s story about her experiences in the Jehovah’s Witnesses, and I couldn’t help but think that I might be blinded. I have been studying with a Jehovah’s Witness for a few months and reading their books. Before this, I was never religious at all. I am very naïve concerning religion and everything I know has been what I have learned through my studies with them. What I’m learning seems to make a lot of sense, but I want to be sure I am doing the right thing. Have I been deceived or are the Jehovah’s Witnesses accurately teaching me the Bible? Are your beliefs based entirely around the Bible? If so, what are your beliefs now and how do they differ from Jehovah’s Witnesses?” Continue reading “I wanted to learn more about the Bible so I started studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

.:I’M THINKING ABOUT GOING BACK INTO THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES BUT …I am still unsure if this is really ‘the Truth’ or not.  Can you please help me?

I’m thinking about going back to the Jehovah’s Witnesses again. I was a Jehovah’s Witness for many years, but I left due to various reasons, including hypocrisy.  At one point, I was disfellowshipped and shunned by my Jehovah’s Witness friends for almost two years. Then, when I was reinstated back into the organization, I was never fully accepted by the brothers and sisters.  I believe in Jehovah God, and I have been to various other churches. Yet, in spite of all I have seen in the organization, I still wonder if Jehovah’s Witnesses have ‘the Truth.’  Recently, an elder and his wife have been bringing me Watchtower magazines. So, last week, I decided to start another study with them to become active again, but I am still unsure if this is really ‘the Truth’ or not. Can you please help me?” Continue reading “I’m thinking about going back to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, BUT…”

I’m confused about who God is! I have a Christian mom and a Jehovah’s Witness dad

.:I’M CONFUSED. WHO IS GOD? I HAVE A CHRISTIAN MOM AND A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS DAD. Who should I believe?

Hi, I’m 16 years old and I have a Christian mother and a Jehovah’s Witness dad. I am super confused! I go to church on Tuesday for my dad and Wednesday for my mom. Every time, I go to my dad’s church (the Kingdom Hall), I’m really bored and I just want to get out of there. When I go to my mom’s church, I like it and I have friends there at the youth group. I don’t want to hurt my dad’s feelings when I tell him I don’t want to go to his church. Well, I met an ex-Jehovah’s Witness who explained to me that some people say Jesus is Jehovah and that doesn’t make sense.  Then, I went to my mom’s church and they were talking about the “Father” and the “Son.” Well, who is the Father?  I asked my mom and she tried to tell me that Jesus and Jehovah are the same thing. They’re inside your heart.  What?  Isn’t that what the ex-Jehovah’s Witness friend was telling me that didn’t make sense?  So, does that mean my mom doesn’t know who God is either?  Now when my dad tries to tell me that mom is wrong, I don’t say anything because I’m confused!  Who is God? I am an agnostic studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Should I continue?

Folding Tracts

I AM AN AGNOSTIC WHO DECIDED TO STUDY WITH MY JEHOVAH’S WITNESS FRIEND.  What Consequence Should I Expect if I Decide Not to Continue My Studies Because I Don’t Believe in God?

“I am currently studying with a Jehovah’s Witness friend who I respect a lot. I only agreed to consider this since I am agnostic and do not believe in a higher power. However, I always thought, ‘Who am I to have such thoughts when billions believe I am wrong?’ I believe in truth, and if I claim to be a truth seeker, then I must admit that I do not know everything, especially the origin of man. I have studied the great questions we all have: ‘Where does man come from? What was the first living cell and where did it spring from? What created the spark that launched the cosmos at the beginning?’  Unfortunately, I can’t reconcile these questions with the belief in God; although the Bible is the most unique book I have ever encountered… Since I was told that my study is understood to be a journey that yields no consequence unless it results in an admitted knowledge resulting in baptism, implies, to walk away should yield no consequences to the relationship of a great friend who began this journey as my teacher. …Yet, I am struggling. Not just with my faith, but with my journey and the choice I made to take this journey down this particular road. What should I expect as a consequence knowing what I just told you? I look forward to your reply and will consider that reply thoughtfully.” Continue reading “I am an agnostic studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses. Should I continue?”

What Bible Translation Do You Recommend?

Bible translationWHAT BIBLE TRANSLATION DO YOU RECOMMEND?

“Today I decided to discontinue studying with the Jehovah’s Witnesses.  My decision was based on reading information from your website and talking to my niece who was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness.  She shared with me her childhood experience of growing up in the Watchtower “truth” and then told me why she chose not to become baptized in this religion.  I have been studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses for 10 years, mainly because I thought they were the only source where I could learn “the truth” about what the Bible says.  Now I know they are teaching lies, but I don’t know where to start to re-learn the Bible.  What Bible translation should I study from?  Yes, I will pray about this too, but I would like to know what translation you are using in your ministry.  Thank you for providing your resources to all who seek to accept Jesus Christ as the truth into their lives.”

OUR RESPONSE:

Dear Friend,

We are happy to hear how God has opened your eyes to the deception you were getting involved in.  Yes, the Jehovah’s Witnesses have a way of twisting what the Bible teaches. It is good you will continue your faith in Christ and reading the Bible. Just reading Scripture, without the Watchtower literature, will reveal much about the way false religions twist Biblical truth.

As far as choosing a Bible translation, there are several that we use in our ministry. They are as follows:

  • The King James Version (KJV) is an old English version, but a good translation. We like it because it is a standard in many churches, but its disadvantages include the fact that its old English text is difficult to understand and the Greek text it is based upon is not as accurate as the more modern translations we have today that utilize the more ancient Greek manuscripts unearthed in the 19th Century. How can I meet Ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses in my area?

OUR RESPONSE:

Dear friend,

You must feel so lonely. It is hard to leave Jehovah’s Witnesses, not only because you lose your friends and family to the organization, but because you face many fears, doubts, and confusing thoughts as you work to reevaluate everything you had been taught as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  The loss of this spiritual identity can be one of the hardest aspects of leaving to overcome. Our Christian daughter is dating a Jehovah’s Witness and converting to that religion. What advice can you give us?

Wedding DressOUR CHRISTIAN DAUGHTER IS DATING A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS AND IS IN THE PROCESS OF CONVERTING. WHAT CAN WE DO?

“We raised our daughter in a Christian home but now at 18 years old, she has begun to date a Jehovah’s Witness. He has impressed her with his ‘Bible knowledge’ and has convinced her to ‘study’ his religion with one of the ladies from his Kingdom Hall.

We asked her if she would be willing to check this religion out before she gets into it.  She claims that she has already checked it out because she is on chapter eight of the book they are “studying” with her.  When we tried to give her your website article: I’M STUDYING WITH JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES. WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE I GET BAPTIZED?, she threw it back in our face saying that she won’t read it because it is ‘apostate’ information. We don’t know what to do! It is like she already has her mind made up and doesn’t care what we present to her.  Right now, we feel it is all about the boy.  She is mad at us because she thinks we are trying to stand in the way of her ‘true love.’  She is doing whatever it takes to get this guy. He is almost 20 years old, not in school and doesn’t even have a job.  What a loser!  Here she is a senior in high school with straight A’s, in advanced placement classes, combined with community college classes, but none of that matters to her.  She is willing to throw all this away to be with this guy. What can we do?”

OUR RESPONSE:

Dear friend,

We feel for you in this situation with your daughter. Unfortunately, what happened to your daughter is not that uncommon.  The teenage daughter filled with unstable hormones and emotional insecurities meets a handsome, young Jehovah’s Witness man who is able to dazzle her with his confident persona and “Bible knowledge.”  Before you know it, your daughter is hooked! I’M DATING A JEHOVAH’S WITNESS. HOW CAN I HELP HIM FIND THE TRUTH?

“I am a Christian but my boyfriend was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness.  He was disfellowshipped from the Jehovah’s Witnesses several years ago and was not a part of this religion when we met and started dating a year ago.

For the past year, he has been attending a small group Bible study with me and my friends from church.  However, he still holds onto many of the beliefs he was raised with and in the last six weeks, his friends and family have influenced him to go back to the meetings at the Kingdom Hall. He is now trying to get reinstated and has even asked me to “study” with his mom.  I am scared about what this religion will do to our relationship and I feel like I am losing the man I love.  It is truly a spiritual battle.  He is no longer attending my church’s small group Bible studies and our religious discussions have become more intense.  How can I witness to him about my faith and help him find the truth in Christ without arguing and destroying our relationship?” Continue reading “I’m Dating A Jehovah’s Witness.
