(WDGR LESSON 14: “How Jehovah’s Witnesses are Organized?”)

(CONTINUED FROM A PREVIOUS DIALOGUE)

CINDY: Karen, last week in our study of the Watchtower brochure What Does God Require of Us?, we discussed Jesus’ words at Matthew 24:45-47 where he spoke of a “faithful and discreet slave” which in the last days would be appointed over Jehovah’s people, “to give them their food at the proper time.”1. We talked about the fact that just as the Watchtower book Knowledge That Leads To Everlasting Life notes, “Throughout history, Jehovah has dispensed spiritual food to his people as a group.… the Israelite priests gathered men, women, and children for group instruction of God’s Law” and “under the direction of the governing body” made up of apostles and older men, “first-century Christians organized congregations and held meetings for the instruction and encouragement of all. Jehovah’s Witnesses follow this pattern.”2. “The world headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses is in New York. Located there is the Governing Body, a central group of experienced elders who oversee the worldwide congregation.” 3. How valid is the Watchtower’s test for finding the “one” true religion? Are Jehovah’s Witnesses the only individuals that fulfill the Watchtower’s criteria of being “in the truth”?* What test does the Bible give for determining “the truth”?

(WDGR Lesson 10: “Practices That God Hates”)

(CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS DIALOGUE)

KAREN: Cindy, I’ve been thinking about the lesson we studied last week in the Watchtower brochure What Does God Require of Us? In that lesson on “Practices That God Hates,” we had studied that not only does God hate lying, but he wants us to avoid “spiritism.” Since “the power behind all these practices is Satan,”1. wouldn’t you agree that Christians should also stay away from any objects that have been inspired through spiritism? (WDGR LESSON 4: “Who is the Devil?”)

(CONTINUED FROM A PREVIOUS DIALOGUE)

CINDY: Karen, last week, you mentioned that your mom is concerned about the fact that you are studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses because she is afraid that the Watchtower organization is a cult. I showed you the February 15, 1994 issue of The Watchtower in which the Society describes what cults are and proves that Jehovah’s Witnesses are not a cult.

KAREN: Yes, Cindy, you had brought up the fact that the Society states: “Cult leaders are known to use manipulative methods to control the minds of their followers”1. and we had discussed how even though the Watchtower denies using manipulative methods to control the minds of their followers, they control what Jehovah’s Witnesses think and believe by claiming that “independent thinking is evidence of pride.”2. I had asked, if personal judgment of determining Scriptural truth is viewed as pride against God, how can this not be a means of controlling what people believe? A concerned Father challenges his son about his decision to leave the Watchtower. The son responds by questioning the organization’s “new light from Jehovah” defense for doctrinal changes and flip-flops.

FATHER: Johnny, don’t turn your back on Jehovah. I raised you in the Truth. How can you turn your back on us and on Jehovah by leaving His organization?

SON: Dad, I love Jehovah! That’s why I’m leaving the Watchtower organization; because it isn’t His. It’s just a group of men claiming to represent God.
